Taking full advantage of strong engagement and recall with custom content produced by the New Yorker Creative Studio, PBS partnered with our in-house team to create unique approaches to raising awareness about three prominent programming ventures in 2015.
Downton Abbey - To mark the premiere of the final season of “Downton Abbey,” The New Yorker commissioned an artist to reproduce a version of the famous Saul Steinberg cover, replacing a New Yorker’s view of the world with that of the Downton Abbey Dowager, played by Maggie Smith. The piece was punctuated by some of the audience's favorite Dowager quotes, underscoring it was her view of the world readers were enjoying.
Last Days of Vietnam - For the American Experience film, “The Last Days of Vietnam” the team created a map of old Saigon and called attention to significant areas of interest highlighted in the film. A time-stamp counting down the rapidly unfolding events reflects the life-and-death tension driving the film.
The Roosevelts - For the new seven-episode Ken Burns documentary, “The Roosevelts,” we tapped Mort Gerberg to create a cartoon caption contest featuring Eleanor, Franklin, and Theodore Roosevelt. The effort generated more than 5,000 reader-submitted entries.
